Senior Legal Advisor

Overview

Based in Kuala Lumpur, the anticipated permanent role would provide strategic legal advice to senior management, supporting commercial activities, corporate governance and business decisions.

Scope of work

• Advise senior management on legal risks, commercial matters and strategic business decisions.
• Review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including engineering, procurement and construction contracts.
• Support the management of contractual claims, disputes and potential litigation, coordinating with external counsel where required.
• Provide legal guidance on corporate governance, regulatory compliance and internal policies.
• Advise on joint ventures, partnerships and other business transactions.
• Work with business and project teams to identify legal exposure and develop practical risk-management measures.
• Lead negotiations involving contractual obligations, liabilities and commercial interests.
• Provide legal leadership and coordinate internal legal resources and external advisers.

Key requirements

• Recognised qualification in law; relevant professional admission or practising credentials to be confirmed.
• Substantial legal experience in energy, oil and gas, offshore/marine, engineering, infrastructure or other businesses involving complex commercial contracts.
• Strong experience reviewing and negotiating commercial and EPC/EPCI contracts.
• Experience handling significant contractual claims, disputes and legal risk.
• Sound understanding of corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to advise senior management; Management Committee or Board exposure would be advantageous.
• Experience supporting joint ventures, partnerships or corporate transactions.
• Strong negotiation, stakeholder-management and leadership skills.
