Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Pipe Stress Engineer to support offshore Oil & Gas projects based in Kuala Lumpur.
This is a specialist engineering position requiring extensive hands-on experience specifically in pipe stress analysis, particularly for offshore and FPSO piping systems.
Candidates should have a strong background in detailed engineering and be capable of independently performing complex stress calculations, evaluating piping loads and coordinating technical interfaces with Piping Layout, Structural and other engineering disciplines.
Scope of work
- Perform and independently manage pipe stress analysis and calculations for offshore and FPSO piping systems.
- Develop, analyse and validate piping stress models using industry-standard stress analysis software.
- Evaluate piping systems for sustained, thermal, occasional and other applicable loading conditions.
- Assess piping flexibility, displacement, support loads, equipment/nozzle loads and structural reactions.
- Define and optimise pipe support requirements based on stress analysis results.
- Review piping layouts and provide recommendations to resolve stress, flexibility and support-related issues.
- Coordinate closely with Piping Layout and Structural teams on support locations, loads and structural interfaces.
- Review relevant engineering drawings, specifications, calculations and vendor information from a pipe stress perspective.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and resolve technical issues during the detailed engineering phase.
- Ensure pipe stress activities and deliverables comply with applicable project specifications, design criteria, codes and standards.
- Provide technical guidance and support to other piping engineers and designers where required.
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant Oil & Gas engineering experience, with substantial dedicated experience in Pipe Stress Engineering / Pipe Stress Analysis.
- Strong hands-on experience in offshore and/or FPSO projects.
- Proven involvement in detailed engineering projects.
- Demonstrated experience independently performing complex pipe stress calculations and analysis.
- Proficiency in recognised pipe stress analysis software such as CAESAR II or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of piping flexibility, support philosophy, support/load considerations and equipment/nozzle loads.
- Good understanding of the interface between Pipe Stress, Piping Layout and Structural Engineering.
- Familiarity with applicable piping design codes, standards and engineering practices.
- Candidates with predominantly general Piping Engineering experience must demonstrate significant hands-on, dedicated pipe stress analysis experience; simply having “piping stress” exposure within a broader piping role will not be sufficient.
